Zane McKenzie is honored to Chair the Board of Cerebral Palsy Australia to “elevate the voices and views of people with Cerebral Palsy, and to “pay back” the disability sector, which has provided [him] with so many opportunities.” Living with Cerebral Palsy, Zane’s family moved to Geelong from the Victorian rural town of Ararat in 1985, to improve Zane’s opportunities to access mainstream schooling and therapy opportunities.

Zane began his working life as a freelance public speaker and disability advocate in Geelong. Zane’s dedication to enhancing the lives of individuals with disabilities stems from both his professional commitment and own lived experiences.

Joining Scope in 2013, he was first employed as a Community Educator at the Communication and Inclusion Resource Centre (CIRC). His career has progressed into full-time employment, first as Client Partnership Lead, from 2018 to 2023. During this time, he led a Customer Reference Group program, and spearheaded the creation of Scope’s Client Advisory Panel – fundamentally transforming client involvement in strategic decision-making processes at Scope.

Today, as Scope’s Workforce Strategy Lead, Zane has shifted his focus to ensuring the organisation implements future-focused workforce initiatives. This includes the Disability Inclusive Workforce Strategy, which focuses on creating meaningful employment and increasing representation of people with disabilities in senior and decision-making roles.

Zane understands the barriers faced by people with Cerebral Palsy and disabilities more broadly. Zane currently also serves as the Chair of the Board at Villamanta Disability Rights Legal Service. A dedicated husband and father, Zane performs as public speaker, singer and musician in his spare time.
