Webinar Recap: What Are Cerebral Palsy Registers, and Why Are They Important?

In this webinar, Professor Nadia Badawi AM and Adjunct Professor Sarah McIntyre explored how cerebral palsy (CP) registers are transforming research and care. These registers are more than databases – they’re powerful tools driving prevention, early diagnosis, and better support across the lifespan.

Through the Australian Cerebral Palsy Register, researchers have uncovered vital insights: a 40% reduction in CP rates, new understanding of genetic and infection-related causes, and data highlighting the need for earlier detection and stronger support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children.

Australia’s leadership has also inspired global collaboration, with 21 countries now using CP registers to improve care and outcomes for people with cerebral palsy worldwide.
